McNair speaks at Labor Day Classic Luncheon

State Farm Representatives, sponsors of the Labor Day Classic Luncheon & Game with Steve McNair.

Forward Times Sports Writer Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve “Air” McNair was the featured speaker for the Touchdown Club of Houston annual Labor Day Classic Luncheon that was held at the Power Center.

The Luncheon, which honored Texas Southern University and Prairie View A & M University, was presented by Frenchy’s Chicken, A-Rocket Moving and Storage, and Dixie Hardware, Plumbing and Electrical.

McNair, who started his career with the Houston Oilers, recently retired as quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens acquired McNair in a trade with the Tennessee titans for a fourth-round pick before the 2006 season. During his first season in Baltimore, he led the Ravens to a 13-3 record and the AFC North Championship.

GOODING JR. TOPLINES BEN CARSON BIOPIC: Actor to play famous neurologist in TNT original movie.

Cuba Gooding, Jr.Cuba Gooding Jr. has been cast as the lead in "Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story," a TNT original movie based on a memoir by the real-life neurologist, reports Reuters.

Due in the first quarter of 2009, the film will trace Carson's journey from frustrated inner-city kid to director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. It will air under TNT's Johnson & Johnson Spotlight Presentation banner.

Thomas Carter, who directed the feature film "Coach Carter," will direct "Gifted Hands" from a script by John Pielmeier.

Prairie View A & M PanthersThe Prairie View A & M Panthers used a stingy-defensive attack to set the tone early to defeat the Texas Southern University Tigers 28-14 in the 24th Annual State Farm Labor Day Classic at Reliant Stadium.

Prairie View, who captured the Durley-Nicks Trophy for the fourth time in five years, got started early with their defensive game-plan led by SWAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Zach East.
