Young,
Gifted and Nothing to Do – Bring Back Summer Jobs
for Youth
By Marc H. Morial
NNPA Columnist
‘The best poverty prevention program is a job.”
For
more than 30 years, beginning in the 1960s, the Federal
Government saw the enormous benefit of providing summer
jobs to millions of disadvantaged youth across America.
But since 2000, the Summer Youth Employment and Training
Program (SYETP), has lost its direct funding, and is

the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). With the economy

REPORTS OF HOUSTON SNAFU: 'They always try 2 make it
seem like everything is about my ego!'
Kanye
West used his Web site to strike back at media reports
that characterized his reaction to technical glitches
at a Houston gig as him having yet another tantrum.
As previously reported, the rapper was performing Friday
at the city's Woodlands Pavilion when side monitors
failed to work. He reportedly cursed out the tech folks
and left the stage after his repeated requests to shut
off the screens were ignored. He returned eventually
to finish the show.

Rockets
season comes to end! Johnson fired in Dallas!
by Yolande Lezine
Forward Times Staff Writer
The Houston Rockets 2008 season came to an end Friday
night in Salt Lake City as they lost their first-round
series with a 113-91 defeat at Energy Solutions Arena.
Tracy
McGrady, who continues to fight through the fact that
he’s never won a first-round series, put on a
valiant effort throughout the playoffs, including a
40-point performance in game 6.
Despite the loss, Rockets owner Les Alexander made it
clear that Houston will continue to build its foundation
around it’s superstars McGrady and Yao Ming.
