The Ensemble Theatre Celebrates its Annual Black Tie Gala Kick Off
The Ensemble Theatre celebrated the conclusion of its 40th Anniversary season, Annual Fundraiser, Black Tie Gala and Kick Off on Thursday, April 27, 2017. A host of theatre sponsors and supporters joined the Kick-Off Chair, the Gala Co-Chairs, board, and staff in announcing the details of this year’s fundraising endeavors. The Gala serves as the theatre’s major fundraiser, supporting its annual $2 million operating budget that includes six main stage season productions, and its educational initiatives directed towards youth.

Mamie Charity Club & Youth Auxiliary Scholarship Luncheon Presenting Courageous Fathers
On Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Double Tree Hilton Hobby Hotel, a scholarship luncheon was held honoring courageous fathers in the Houston community; all made possible by the Mamie Charity Club. Scholarships were presented to deserving students in the Houston community. Congratulations to all of the scholarship recipients including: Richard Daniels, Kaci Mitchell, Kelli Northern and Ariah Watson. Courageous fathers honorees include: Clarence Brooks, Rev. Lawrence Butler, Gesma Green, Gregory Harris, Kevin Hopkins, Edmond Jones, Pastor Richard Malveaux, Godfrey McCoy, Richard McCoy, Willard McGowan, Willie Nixon, Eric Vaughn Northern, and Dr. Innocent Onyeri. The Mamie Charity Club was organized on June 27, 1955 by Christine Williams. The club was named after Mrs. Mamie Crain, the wife of Rev. N.C. Crain. Mrs. Crain, like Mrs. Williams, loved to help those who are in need. Annie Lee Smith would like to thank everyone who made this event a huge success.
Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. and Top Teens of America Founders Day Humble-Intercontinental Chapter
On May 6, 2017, a luncheon for Founders Day – 30 Year Celebration was held at Jesse Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University (TSU), 3100 Sampson Street, in Houston, Texas 77004. Presiding Chair was Lady Sylvia O’Neal. Charter Members of this organization include Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Lady Sylvia Jones, Top Lady of the Year. TLOD was chartered by a group of eight distinguished women on September 8, 1964, in Houston, Texas as a non-profit educational, humanitarian organization. The purpose of this organization was to marshal the talents, energies and unique skills of women in a collaborative effort to help ease the moral and social problems our youth were facing in the mid-sixties. Their mission is to enhance and enrich the lives of youth and adults through national and community based programs and projects. Happy Founders Day!
