From July 25 – July28, the best of the best athletes gathered to compete at the USATF Outdoor National Championships. This year’s event was held in Des Moines, Iowa. The athletes were competing for national titles and a chance to represent team USA in Doha, Qatar at the IAAF World Championships. Some of the highlights from the meet include:
Noah Lyles: 22-year-old Lyles set a new record in Drake Stadium as he sprinted the men’s 200 meter final with a winning time of 19.78.
Daniel Roberts: Roberts won the men’s 110-meter hurdles race with a winning time of 13.23.
Ajee Wilson: The 3rd time was a charm for Wilson, who secured the women’s 800 meter national title for the third year in a row with a finishing time of 1:57.72.
Dalilah Muhammad: Muhammad broke a 13-year record in the women’s 400 meter hurdles final. She won with a time of 52.20.
Lopez Lomong: 34-year-old Lomong won the men’s 10,000 meter final and the 5,000 meter final. Unfortunately, since he has yet to run the World’s standard, he will not be able to represent the U.S. in Doha.
Fred Kerley: Kerley upset a favored Michael Norman in the men’s 400 meter race by finishing 43.64 to claim the US title.
Christian Coleman: 23-year-old Coleman won the men’s 100 meter sprint with a winning time of 9.99.
Teahna Daniels: Daniels claimed the women’s 100 meter US title in an upset with a winning time of 11.2
