Matthew 16:17-19 New International Version (NIV)
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
Define Attitude: (n) a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.
Forward Thinkers, let’s open up on this Pentecost Sunday 2019 by committing to adjusting our attitudes. This commitment will create an atmosphere where we can BE ENCOURAGED, BE BLESSED, and BE GREAT.
Forward Thinkers, set your attitude on the fact that the devil shall not prevail, so no matter what things look like, if we stay with God and God’s church we win.
Matthew 5:6 New International Version (NIV)
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Matthew 5:6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
6 “Blessed [joyful, nourished by God’s goodness] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God], for they will be [completely] satisfied.
Matthew 5:16 Amplified Bible (AMP)
16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Forward Thinkers, Matthew Chapter 5 is known as the Sermon on the Mount and the first 12 verses are called the Beatitudes. This month of June we are using this text to inspire us to BE Who and What God has Called and Created Us To BE.
Forward Thinkers, I believe the goal of Jesus in this body of scriptures is to prepare us to operate with the right attitude in the Kingdom of God.
Notice each verse starts off with us in a negative place (hunger and thirst) but if we operate with the right attitude we end up shining bright because God’s goal is for us to Be the light of the world.
Forward Thinkers, adjust your attitude and let’s enter into covenant agreement that we will let nothing stop us from BEING IMPACTED PEOPLE OF GOD.
Today, as I stated earlier, is Pentecost Sunday and I believe today should actually be part of the Church Trinity Celebrations.
Christmas: the birth of Jesus was stolen by Santa Claus, Christmas parties, trees, and gifts. Easter: the Resurrection of Jesus became big business with Easter eggs, rabbits, and new Easter clothes.
But today, 7 Sundays or 50 days after Easter is Pentecost Sunday, the birth of the Church and the release of the Holy Spirit on the people of God.
Forward Thinkers, on Pentecost Sunday the game changed but we have allowed religion, tradition, and the miseducation of the church to keep us from operating at our Full Potential.
The word I received from God through the Holy Spirit was to teach My Word to my people, teach My Will for my people, and teach My Ways to my people and the Holy Spirit will empower them to win.
Acts 2:1 Amplified Bible (AMP)
The Day of Pentecost
2 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place,
Acts 2:4 New International Version (NIV)
4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Forward Thinkers, remember Jesus promised that those who were hungry and thirsty after Him would be filled and now we see the filling comes through the Holy Spirit.
Today, I’m saying Holy Spirit instead of the Holy Ghost because I don’t want you thinking it’s an unreal Disney character but the Holy Spirit is one of the most powerful forces known to mankind.
Pentecost is more than a religious denomination or speaking in tongues in a church service.
Let’s go back to Acts chapter 1 to make sure in all our getting we get an understanding.
Acts 1:4-5 New International Version (NIV)
4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Forward Thinkers, WE MUST GET IN GOD’S PRESENCE AND WAIT ON THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Acts 1:8 New International Version (NIV)
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Forward Thinkers, THE HOLY SPIRIT BRINGS POWER AND WE BECOME WITNESSES OF GOD’S POWER.
Jerusalem: those close to you will see and experience the power of God through your transformed life
Judea/Samaria: those around you will see God doing something great through you and with you
Ends of the earth: your reputation will go places you may never go but your testimony will empower others—REMEMBER GOD SAID HE WOULD MAKE YOUR NAME GREAT
Forward Thinkers, The Holy Spirit empowers us to BE
Let’s jump back Acts 2
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS RELEASED FREELY IN A PLACE OF UNITY
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
Forward Thinkers, DON’T LET THOSE WHO DON’T UNDERSTAND STOP YOU FROM BEING GREAT
Peter Addresses the Crowd
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 “‘In the last days, God
says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will
prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,
“‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand
35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’
Forward Thinkers, THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES US POWER AND VICTORY OVER OUR ENEMIES
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
Forward Thinkers, THE HOLY SPIRIT AND GOD’S FORGIVENESS PARTNERS TOGETHER AND GIVES US VICTORY.
Forward Thinkers, NOTICE THE HOLY SPIRIT BREAKS GENERATIONAL CURSES.
