‘Get Out’ is the Movie You Didn’t Know You Were Waiting For

Jordan Peele’s directorial debut ‘Get Out,’ which had a $4.5 million budget, has made over $100 million at the box office.  Upon its release the film boasted a rare 100% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has since moved down a notch to 99%…because…well, haters (that don’t even understand the movie) gonna hate.

The brilliance of this film is that it challenges the boundaries of any box you try to put it in. I have seen the film twice and the first time I saw it I perceived it to be a horror film. The second time I watched it it felt more satirical and the lines between protagonist and antagonist were blurred. What was clear both times was the social critique Peele was having in the film. While we came to know Peele for his comedy prowess (Key & Peele) and impeccable President Barack Obama impression…it appears that even more genius lay in wait in the caverns of his mind.

I think the success of the film has proven that featuring a Black director who features a Black lead character can and will crush the box office. ‘Get Out’ and see this film!
