The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards were this past weekend. Regina King won for her incredible performance in Berry Jenkins film, “If Beale Street Could Talk,” which is an adaptation of James Baldwin’s novel originally published in 1974. King gathered her things (A Golden Globe) and gathered the crowd (their wigs) by stating, “I just want to say that I’m going to use my platform right now to say in the next two years everything that I produce, I am making a vow – and it’s going to be tough – to make sure that everything that I produce is 50 percent women.”
King went on to say “And I just challenge anyone out there – anyone out there who is in a position of power, not just in our industry, in all industries – I challenge you to challenge yourselves and stand with us in solidarity and do the same. God bless you. Thank you.”
Queen Regina King, you have given us so much over the years and it’s about time you got your things. So talented, so gracious, so beautiful. We don’t deserve you, yet here you are. Thank you.
