PRAIRE VIEW A&M WOMEN’S TRACK: Bookman Achieves Career Best at USATF Championships
Senior Deonca Bookman of the Prairie View A&M women’s track and field team achieved new heights as she completed her PVAMU career.
The Allen, TX native was the only Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s track and field athlete to participate in the 2018 USATF Championships over the weekend. Bookman placed seventh overall (57.70) in the women’s 400m hurdles final as she ran against some of the fastest hurdlers in the nation. The competition consisted of pro and collegiate athletes (Adidas, Xendurance, LSU, Southern California, Glendarden TC, and Nike). No one has reached these heights for the Lady Panthers since the late 1970s.
Bookman qualified for the final on Saturday with a career-best time of 56.64, as she bested her previous career time of 56.78. Bookman posted a better time than athletes from Florida, Minnesota, Kennesaw State and Kentucky.
Bookman will finish her degree program in Kinesiology this August.
