Legendary singer and songwriter James Ingram passed away at the age of 66 after a long battle with brain cancer. There was an outpouring of love from his friends in the entertainment industry.
Longtime friend Debbie Allen made a statement saying, “I have lost my dearest friend and creative partner James Ingram to the Celestial Choir. He will always be cherished, loved and remembered for his genius, his love of family and his humanity. I am blessed to have been so close. We will forever speak his name.” Collaborator and fellow musician Quincy Jones expressed via Twitter, “There are no words to convey how much my [heart] aches with the news of the passing of my baby brother, James Ingram. With that soulful, whisky sounding voice, James was simply magical. He was, & always will be, beyond compare. Rest In Peace my baby bro…You’ll be in my [heart] forever.”
Ingram, born in 1952, hailed from Ohio. He started his musical career as a member of the band named Revelation Funk and playing keys for Ray Charles. His writing abilities and soulful sound earned him Grammy wins, Oscar nominations and a couple of US number one hits. He will remain King of the furrowed brow, an incredible duet partner, and a master of the pen.
