STRESS…that 6-letter word that not only isn’t good for your mind but also can severely hurt your heart. It is not clear why chronic stress can cause high rates of heart disease; but some believe that stress releases certain hormones that may damage the arteries over time and make blood clots more likely to form.  Knowing this, how will you deal with stress in 2018?  Some ladies find unhealthy ways to deal with stress such as overeating, smoking, or drinking.  All of these are additional risk factors for heart disease. Well, busy ladies, it’s time for us to identify our “stress monsters” and deal with them in healthy ways so that our ol’ ticker is protected.  After all, we only have one of these.

STRESS will happen…No matter how organized you are; no matter how systematic you are; no matter how user-friendly your work and home environment are; stress will find its way into your peaceful lifestyle.  So, you ask, “What can I do when unexpected stress pokes its ugly head in?”  Identify simple stress busters that work for you. Find simple activities that clear your head and helps you to calm down.  At the onset of a stress attack, turn these busters on and give stress a 360-degree turn.

Here are a few stress busters that should help you keep that ticker ticking:

  1. Take a walk

Just like Tom Hanks in the movie “Forrest Gump”… RUUUUNNNNS, the least we can do is walk, ladies, walk.  Leave those insane asylum places in your life and take a walk to get a fast break from stressful situations.  Not only will walking help to de-stress you but walking or running is also a great aerobic exercise, too.

  1. Call a friend

Make your Bestie your sounding board. Even if it’s just for a few minutes, surely there is something that they can say that will put a smile on your face. We all have someone whose voice alone perks us up.

  1. Write in a journal

Expressing our feelings could be the best way to deal with stress. Keeping a journal is a way to capture those feelings while you are in the moment. You don’t have to worry about what others think or say. You don’t even have to worry about anyone interrupting the conversation; just let your pen do the work. By the time you’re done, those feelings will be on their way out of your system.

  1. Get a massage

Massage can help relax tight and painful muscles, improve range of motion in the joints, enhance circulation and lower stress levels. Stress is considered a risk factor for many chronic diseases including heart disease, and can make your symptoms worse.

These are just a few stress relievers.  These are trial and error.  If they do not work for you, please feel free to come up with ones of your own.  Although we, as women, carry the weight of the world on our shoulders, there is no reason for us to bear the ongoing burden of a stressful life.
