Tennis Great Serena Williams Joins SurveyMonkey’s Board

Serena Williams is now a member of the board at the consumer survey firm SurveyMonkey. Williams has established herself as one of the greatest athletes of all time and remains the highest paid female athlete having banked $77 million in prize money thus far. Williams, an entrepreneur in her own right having launched several businesses, sees this as an opportunity to use her influence to encourage diversity in the tech world. Williams told TechCrunch, “As a business professional, I’m constantly asking questions. I want to hear the positive and the negative to figure out where I can improve. Like SurveyMonkey, I’m driven to ask what’s happening, and why. We also share a fierce commitment to letting all voices be heard.”
According to Fortune, Silicon Valley has long been accused of a lack of diversity and issues of sexism. SurveyMonkey’s CEO Zander Lurie said that [Williams’] “voice on the board sends a strong message to our company, investors, and the industry. We want change agents at our table.”
