The Houston Texans had a rough on-the-road loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson had an incredible game. In the 41-7 blowout against the Texans, Jackson threw a total of four touchdown passes and rushed for 85 yards. Analysis aside, it really came down to the Ravens showing up ready to defend their house.
Head Coach Bill O’Brien stated, “Give them credit. They did some really good things. They executed better than we did, and they did a really good job. Not too much that they showed, that they hadn’t showed. They just executed their plans better than what we coached and executed ours.”
After a couple of poor playmaking decisions and a missed pass interference call, it looked like the Texans had a hard time finding their rhythm again. Texans QB Deshaun Watson was sacked 7 times. The type of defensive disruption Watson dealt with throughout the game left him finishing with 18/29 for 169 yards, a fumble and an interception. Watson tried to break away at times with a run but he was held to 12 yards as the Ravens defense had his number.
Texans Wide Receiver DeAndre Hopkins surmised it best, saying, “We came out, but today was… [the Ravens’] day. [The Ravens] …played a better game than us today.”
Jackson managed to quickly thread his passes through the Texans defense like a needle, easily finding his targets. Watson didn’t stand a chance as the Ravens defense collapsed on him as he danced around in the pocket. It’s almost as if the speed with which the Ravens played also assisted in their efficiency.
The Ravens simply played a better game on Sunday and won. The Texans will look to redeem themselves as they face the Indianapolis Colts at home on Thursday.
