On Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 6:30 p.m., the Jesse H. Jones School of Business Alumni Chapter of the Texas Southern University National Alumni Association held its 5th Annual Scholarship Soiree at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Houston-Greenway Plaza at 6 E. Greenway Plaza, Houston, Texas. Dr. Austin A. Lane, President of Texas Southern University applauded involvement in the school’s alumni activities, such as the Scholarship Soiree. Dr. Claudius B. Claiborne, Interim Dean of Jesse H. Jones School of Business – T.S.U. also thanked everyone for supporting and helping to raise scholarship funds for the students at T.S.U.

TSU acknowledged its honored alumni chosen as award recipients for the “40 Under 40” designation and congratulated each of them for their professional and civic responsibilities. The student scholarship recipients’ hard work, leadership and community service that they have demonstrated was duly recognized. Our distinguished Mayor of the City of Houston, Sylvester Turner, welcomed T.S.U. alumni, faculty, staff, students, supporters and the business community for making a positive impact and the efforts that are making this program successful. Rothko Chapel presents Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration

In honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and as part of his annual birthday celebration, the Rothko Chapel recently hosted a conversation between civil rights activist and organizer Rev. Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Jr. and Former Indian Ambassador Nirupama Rao exploring the influence of Mahatma Gandhi on Dr. King, moderated by ABC-13’s Melanie Lawson. The program featured opening remarks by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Consul General of India, Dr. Anupam Ray. This program coincided with the Houston-wide Gandhi Sesquicentennial Celebration in partnership with the Mahatma Gandhi Library in Houston. A unique performance by Indrajit Banerjee (sitar) and Shantilal Shah (tabla) took place at 7pm during seating for the event. A performance by the Phillip Hall Singers concluded the program.
