Derrick Thomas Foundation, Inc. 25th Scholarship Luncheon Honors Outstanding High School Seniors & Awards Scholarships
The Derrick Thomas Foundation, Inc., a Non-profit Educational Service Organization, recently honored outstanding high school seniors from the Houston Area and awarded scholarships at the 25th Annual Scholarship and Recognition Luncheon, held at the Westin Galleria Hotel, 5060 West Alabama, in Houston, Texas. The luncheon’s theme was “Go Confidently in the Direction of Your Dreams.” The outstanding honorees include: Nia Collier, Majesty Davis, Alexandria Christine DeWalt, Jasmine Geyen, Markus James Hartfield, Autumn Henry, Haley Hutchinson, Jazlyn Jackson, Alexis Lee, Brian Chase Mack, Troy Porche and Yhaz Toliver. The scholarship recipients were Alexandria DeWalt, Alexis Lee and Jazlyn Jackson. The program included Dr. Cherry Gooden, Retired Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education at Texas Southern University, serving as Mistress of Ceremony; and Joseph Vallet gave special recognition to the Honorees. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman Al Green, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Governor Gregg Abbot also awarded certificates to the honorees. The 40 Plus Models and Guest Models provided an Afternoon of Elegance through fashions. The Foundation also implements numerous workshops/seminars to further develop our youths’ educational, cultural, social and leadership abilities.
The Children’s Museum 22nd Annual Spring Golf Classic
The Children’s Museum 22nd Annual Spring Golf Classic raised more than $135,000 during their fundraising tournament that was held on April 11, 2017, at Memorial Park Golf Course. The Children’s Museum 22nd Annual Spring Golf Classic was chaired by Jeb Bowden and Matt Kafka as they graciously hosted a triumphant afternoon of golf clubs, putting greens, and scorecards. The tournament was an overall success, raising funds for the Museum’s free and reduced admissions programs, ensuring that no visitor is turned away due to financial constraints. The Houston Grand Opera Ball 2017, “Carnevale di Venezia” was recently held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the Wortham Theater Center. The Grand Foyer of the Wortham Center was literally transformed into a spectacular Venetian setting. The Houston Grand Opera Ball 2017 raises vital funds to support the Houston Grand Opera.
