Any person enrolled in a Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) plan and living in a Hurricane Harvey Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster-declared county may be seen by a doctor without co-pay (free of charge) through November 30, 2017.
As an organization that treats a large number of CHIP patients, Lone Star Family Health Center (LSFHC) hopes that this additional reduction of cost will allow families to get children affected by the recent storm to a doctor if needed.
“At times, we see our families enrolled in the CHIP program having difficulty covering the co-pay needed to see a doctor,” says LSFHC Communications & Outreach Manager Ashley Hamlin, “We know this co-pay cut will assist these families in a time of increased financial hardship.”
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved a request from the State of Texas to waive CHIP co-payments for members who have a permanent address in the declared disaster counties.
Children are not required to have an illness or injury that is storm related, and may see a doctor without the required co-pay for any medical need.
