When Houston City Council Member Dwight Boykins (Dist. D) finally rolled out his inaugural 2nd Chance Initiative, he wanted to have a job fair in the city of Houston, which would provide opportunities for individuals who are unemployed, underemployed, have dropped out of high school, and those who have made mistakes in the past, including non-violent ex-felons.
That inaugural 2nd Chance Job Fair drew well over 1,000 people to the event; many who were looking for the chance to do something they wanted to do, but had challenges doing – get a job.
After the success of that inaugural event, Council Member Boykins knew he had to strengthen it and continue to provide these opportunities for individuals looking for a second chance at life, which is why on Monday, May 9, 2016, he will be hosting the second annual 2nd Chance Job Fair at the George R. Brown Convention Center, located at 1001 Avenida De Las Americas, Houston, TX 77010 Hall B-3, from 9am to 1pm.
The mission of the 2nd Chance Initiative is to address Houston’s workforce shortage by empowering members of our community, improving their quality of life, and financial stability. The initiative will assist those who are in need of a second chance by addressing the City of Houston workforce shortage and will empower members of our community by improving their quality of life and providing financial stability.
