The 2016 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship will take place this weekend in Houston at NRG stadium. The championship will open with the Oklahoma Sooners (29-7) facing off against the Villanova Wildcats (33-5) at 6pm on Saturday. Following that matchup, the North Carolina Tar Heels (32-6) will face the Syracuse Orange (23-13). During the regular season when the teams met before, Oklahoma dominated Villanova and UNC swept Syracuse. If the regular season results are any indication of who will match up Sunday, it would appear that Oklahoma and North Carolina will face off for the title.
Oklahoma vs. Villanova
Oklahoma has Buddy Hield who was recognized by Kobe Bryant after exploding with 37 points in the victory over Oregon. Hield gets buckets. However, it is Oklahoma’s defense that will make the difference in their matchup against Villanova who is just as hungry for a chance at the title. Fueled by the loss to Seton Hall in the Big East Championship game, Villanova will not be counted out.
North Carolina vs. Syracuse
North Carolina who is dominating college ball right now will face the surprise team, Syracuse. Considering the Tar Heels have won all of their tournament games thus far and have consistently had multiple players scoring double figures, it appears as though they are un-guardable. Syracuse fought their way to the final four and while they may not have as deep a rotation as UNC, who doesn’t love an underdog story.
This year’s NCAA Final Four National Semifinals and National Championship Game will be televised on TBS. This year marks the first time that the national championship will air on cable in the 78-year history of the event.
