University of Houston Track & Field signee, Raven Nunnery was announced as the Gatorade Louisiana Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
In its 36th year of honoring the nation’s best, Nunnery is recognized for excellence not only on the track, but academically. Nunnery is now finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year, set to be announced later this month.
Nunnery is a graduate of John C. Curtis Christian School where she is coming off a Class 5A State title in the 200-meter after clocking a time of 23.41. Her winning time ranked ninth nationally this season under all-conditions among high school athletes. In the 100-meter, Nunnery clocked the nation’s seventh fastest time of the 2021 season under all-conditions with a time of 11.38. Along with her state title in the 200-meter, Nunnery helped her high school to a first-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay and a second-place finish in the 4×200-meter relay.
An all-around athlete, Nunnery competed in softball and volleyball. She was a member of her school’s yearbook club and volunteered regularly while maintaining a 3.51 GPA.
Nunnery joins a long list of distinguished athletes such as Heather Abadie (2019-20, St. Michael the Archangel High School), Logan Lewis (2018-19, Baton Rouge Magnet High School), Leah Scott (2017-18, Dutchtown High School), and Kyah Loyd (2016-17, C.E. Byrd High School), among the state’s list of former award winners.
