Following a rainy Thursday night draw against Stephen F. Austin, the Cougars picked up another home win, defeating Houston Baptist, 3-0 on Sunday.
The first Cougar to put Houston (3-0-1) on the board was sophomore midfielder Madison Gear, assisted by redshirt freshman Caitlyn Matthews. Soon after halftime in the 51st minute, redshirt senior Jazmin Grant, assisted by senior Natalie Anderson, added to the Cougars’ tally. Not long after the second Houston goal, freshman Anna Reysa put one in the net thanks to a Zionah Browne assist.
In addition to the three goal scorers, goalkeeper Mikaela Gracia recorded a clean sheet for the first time this season. She played a total of 90 minutes in the net notching one save. She now holds a 2-0-1 personal record on the season.
Houston also recorded 23 total shots against Houston Baptist (0-3-0), compared to the Huskies’ two. Grant, Browne, and Reysa recorded three shots each, with Madison Dichiara, Gear, and Anderson all tallying two shots apiece.
For the first time since 2016, the start of the Diego Bocanegra era, Houston Soccer has gone unbeaten in its first four matches. Similar to the 2016 season, Houston has recorded three wins and one draw.
