I’m not going to pretend to have watched the SAG Awards, because I didn’t. Not because I didn’t want to; it’s just that I rarely watch anything that isn’t a Netflix original series, basketball game, or Scandal. I did however catch the highlights on YouTube, so it’s like I was basically there. The big winners of the night would be Idris Elba’s awesomeness and Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s friendship. Idris Elba, who took home two SAG awards for the evening said, “[The SAG Awards] are good because it’s my peers. We all work hard and everyone respects each other. It’s nice to get that nod from everyone…When I first got my SAG card…that was the biggest moment of my life. It’s better than any award when you get that moment.” He won for his supporting role in Netflix’s Beasts of No Nation and the BBC crime drama Luther. In response to the lack of diversity on the Academy Award front, Idris said jokingly, “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to diverse TV” as he presented an award with his young brilliant Ghanaian co-star, Abraham Attah.
Let’s get into Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s adorableness. We all know what happened at the end of Titanic…but how can you not yearn for a part two after seeing how cute these two are at every awards ceremony? “People are always so excited to see Leo and myself in the same space, which you know at the end of the day that is so lovely, isn’t it?” Winslet said in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel. “It’s been 20 years and people still get such a kick out of it.” I am completely on board for Titanic 2: Zombie Edition. If Leo sweeps this awards season, perhaps he’ll be more open to something like that.
