Longtime Houston city employee Verna Reece passed away this past Monday, November 9 at the age of 62.
Born August 21, 1953, Reece worked under the administrations of Mayors Fred Hofheinz, Jim McConn, Kathy Whitmire, Lee P. Brown and Bill White. She was also employed in the Department of Housing and Community Development.
After more than 29 years of service, Reece retired from the City of Houston on May 31, 2004. Former Mayor White proclaimed the day she retired as “Verna Reece Day” in the city.
Reece also served on the staff of County Commissioners Sylvia Garcia and Jack Mormon. She was serving on the staff of Harris County Commissioner Jack Mormon at the time of her passing.
Wake services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015, at Mabrie Memorial Mortuary, 5000 Almeda, Houston, TX 77004 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at St. Luke the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 3530 Wheeler, Houston, TX 77004. The viewing will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and the celebration of her life will begin at 11:00 am.
