“I Am Bold, Fearless and Confident” was the resounding theme at Miracal’s Place General Residential Operation (GRO). Forward Times Publisher and CEO Karen Carter Richards and several of her Sister Friends spoke to young ladies at Miracal’s Place. The young ladies, ages 13-18, were so excited and engaged in the conversation. Richards, and her friends; Jackie Adams, Owner, MELODRAMA Boutique, Kimberly Floyd, Chief of Staff, Vaskey Media Group (dba D-Mars), Kim Roxie, Owner of LAMIK Beauty Brand, Shante Thompson, Owner, Doss Couture Designs, and Kelly P. Hodges, Owner of Hodges Communications Group, LLC and Executive Director of Houston Texans YMCA spent Sunday afternoon discussing their careers and sharing life lessons and leaving the young ladies with some “food for thought.”

Miracal’s Place was founded in 2014 by high school sweethearts now, husband-and-wife Nichole and Wilson Scott III, and Muriel Jackson (mother of Nichole Scott). The couple was reminded by a high school friend of the significant need for at-risk children and limited resources to care for them, and the passion grew strong enough to reach out to meet their needs. Miracal’s Place has approximately 14 staff who are onsite 24 hours a day. The staff interacts daily with the young ladies to ensure their needs are met. “There is no us without the team. We run like a well-oiled machine. Teamwork truly makes the dream work,” says co-owner Wilson Scott III. The name Miracal, although spelled differently, strongly expresses the heart of what the GRO represents.
The GRO provides community-based programming, a safe and protective environment designed to encourage and offer each child a chance for a better quality of life. Miracal’s Place provides supportive behavioral, social, educational, cultural, and therapeutic services for youth involved in the Department of Child Protective Services. “Blessed by how fortunate we were to experience love and support from family, friends, teachers, and other individuals, we believe that encouragement can go a long way in rearing a child,” said co-owner Nichole Scott. The General Residential Operation is a warm, caring, home-like setting, wholly dedicated to improving the quality of life for at-risk children.
The residents of Miracal’s Place will gain the skills needed to have a successful life through patience, loyalty, and lots of love. Sister Friends gifted the teens with bags that included a notebook, LAMIK lip gloss, Doss Couture t-shirt, earrings from MELODRAMA Boutique, a copy of the Forward Times and snacks. “I was so excited to share this experience with my Sister Friends. I know that we touched at least one of those young ladies,” said Richards.
Miracal’s Place can house twelve young ladies. These skills will assist the youth in developing in their unique way. For more information, visit https://www.miracalsplace.com/.
