This past week, NFL Offensive Tackle Tony Hills used his time during free agency to reach out to the community that raised him.
Hills took the time to speak with high school students at two separate locations about how to “tackle” life. On Wednesday, May 18th, Hills spoke to almost 600 students at South Houston High School in the Pasadena area. About half of the audience consisted of male and female varsity athletes and ROTC Cadets.
“I can relate to the kids because I grew up in this same area with a single mom, working multiple jobs to raise and provide for a household of young men the best way she knew how,” said Hills. “I want to let all kids know that their circumstances don’t define them; their will to rise above them does.”
On Friday, May 20th, the Alief Elsik High School graduate was the featured speaker at the Harmony School’s “Kick Off To College” celebration in support of the upcoming Super Bowl in Houston. The more than 4,000 attendees got a peek at his Super Bowl 50 ring and were inspired by Hills’ stories of defeat and victory.
Hills has played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, and most recently the New Orleans Saints, with whom he is now in negotiations as a free agent.
