On Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 1 pm, an anti-violence gang truce summit will be held at the Fountain Life Center located at 14083 South Main Houston, Texas.
The purpose of the summit is to identify root causes of violence attributed to gang activity and implement Houston-centric solutions. “This summit is an initial step in a series of actions designed to reduce and eliminate violence in our communities. There can be no sustainable economic development or community revitalization without security and safety being established. We cannot reestablish Black Wall Streets as long as our blood is being spilled in the streets” says Southwest Regional Student Minister Dr. Robert Muhammad of the Nation of Islam.
The genesis of the One Houston-One Hood Truce Summit lies with Mr. Gerry Monroe, Executive Director of UUAA; Dr. Robert Muhammad, Southwest Regional Student Minister Nation of Islam and Houston Justice or Else Local Organizing Committee; Pastor E. A. Deckard, Greenhouse International Church and No More Bloodshed Movement; Brother Deric Muhammad, Activist, Project Forward; Pastor Dr. Remus Wright, Fountain of Praise Church; Pastor Dr. D.Z. Cofield, Good Hope Baptist Church; and Reginald Gordon, OG1. The organizers begin with the premise that the solution to gang related violence lies with the community and not necessarily with the police. Therefore, the entire Houston community is invited and welcomed to attend this initial gathering. For more information call (832) 236-9956.
