Thank God for the two-party political system. But, unfortunately, rather than becoming diplomatically adversarial in terms of what is good for America; the two-party-political system has evolved into un-statesmen-like partisan politics, cultural and ethnic discrimination, and closed-mindedness. God created all nations to dwell upon the face of the earth in peace and unity, because if you live by the sword, you die by the sword (Matthew 26: 52) (Isaiah 2:4).
The presidential election of 2016 is a watershed moment in American political history: Which way America? Chaos or national unity? Questions: Whatever happened to compassionate conservatism? Or the angelic side of points of light rather than devilish greed? In the twenty-first century, seemingly, the darker-side of devilish-selfishness is prevailing rather than moral civility.
Question: How did we arrive at this crossroad in American political history? It has always been said that politics is about the future, and of course, the future belongs to our children, and future generations. The question is: Who will pay for the future? The answer is, our children; simply because there are no free rides, even though frugality should be observed at all times. Freedom is not free, and stagnation is undesirable, because economic stagnation can turn into inflation, and inflation can become depression. And, when the middle-class is out of work, and the issue of too-big-to-fail becomes public policy, then economic chaos ensues.
Again, the question is: What has happened to the American Dream and our democratic-political system? Has it gone to the dawn of a bright, and blissful new morning? Or has it slipped into the eternal deep-dark-pit of midnight? Spiritually oriented political leadership can resolve the governance dilemma facing American society, because in the words of Rodney King: “can we all just get along?” And, of course, President Abraham Lincoln said it best: “A nation divided against itself cannot stand”. Both political parties are dividing Americans into socio-economic-political camps, rather than unifying Americans as Americans. Unfortunately, this is especially true of one particular political Party. Both Rodney King’s and Abraham Lincoln’s statements ring loud, true, and profoundly clear in the twenty first century; especially given the nonsensical-rancor in the 2016 presidential election. This is the message that all Americans should clearly hear: “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all, If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (1 John 1: 5-7).
With good spiritual leadership in our families, churches, educational institutions, and political party system, we can overcome the potentially disastrous tsunami headed our way, that is, if we heed the Word of God. “Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Corinthians 3: 16-17).
This socio-spiritual-commentary is like unto John the Baptist crying in the wilderness of spiritual ignorance that is ignorance of God: Repent! Repent! Repent! “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.” (Revelation 4: 11).
What God has done in this great nation called America, no individual or group of individuals because of their unadulterated power seeking, envy, unbridled greed, and perverted lustful desires should put asunder.
Truly America, “Let’s just all get along”, and agree with sound Biblical doctrine, because: “That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in Heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18: 19-20). Know this, America; any nation divided against itself because of ethnic and cultural status differentiations cannot stand.
We do not need any type or form of new declarations, because we all know that there is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9), but from time to time we need to be reminded by the Great I Am. “Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning.” (1 John 2: 7).
As Americans, we have a moral charge to live-up to the discipline of our own moral conscience, and the spiritual words as recorded and agreed to in the preamble to the U. S. Constitution: “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, and among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. The U.S. Constitution is almost a perfectly written governing document. It is a document that the world had never seen before, because it included everyone as equal members of society. Unfortunately, the legal enforcement of the document is mired in race/ethnicity, social class and gender discrimination. This is why the nature of the American dilemma is both spiritual, as well as, socio-economic. We do not have racism by law, but racism exists in individual mind-sets, and institutional power resources. This is why Americans must make a concerted effort spiritually to get it right with God, and keep it right for future generations. Then and only then can we get it right in our families, churches, and educational institutions. Selah!
