On Saturday, August 6, 2016, The A. Philip Randolph Institute, Tideland Houston Chapter, honored their 2016 Living Legends with a beautiful banquet at the CWA Local 6222 Union Hall. The honorees included: The Honorable Betty Bland, The Honorable Gloria Peavy, The Honorable Willie Belle Boone, The Honorable Jesse Boone, The Honorable Ruth Cummings, The Honorable Claude Cummings, Jr., The Honorable Barbara Johnson, The Honorable Cleo Glenn Johnson-McLaughlin, The Honorable James McLaughlin, & The Honorable Dorothy Williams-Henry.
The Master of Ceremony for the event was The Honorable Jarvis Johnson. The Prayer was given by Pastor Claude Cummings III. The Honorable Ron Reynolds presented the Welcome to APRI Members, Friends, and Supporters. Ms. Evelyn Smith was the guest soloist. The funds raised for the event will go to The 2016 Living Legends Scholarship Fundraiser, which will provide scholarships for APRI students. Clara Caldwell is the President of the APRI Tideland Houston Chapter.
