On Thursday, May 12, 2016, Houston Center For Literacy 2016: Mayor’s Literacy held its Leadership Award Breakfast at the River Oaks Country Club from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Welcome was given by Emcee, Khambrel Marshall (KPRC Local 2), Introduction of Learner of the Year was presented by Sheri Suarez Foreman (President & CEO, Houston Center for Literacy), Learner of the Year Remarks by Carlos Gonzales, Introduction of Honoree Ellie Francisco (Co-Chair), Introduction of Mayor: Sylvester Turner by Leisa Holland-Nelson (Co-Chair), Remarks and Salute to the 2015-2016 Leaders of Adult Literacy presented by Mayor Sylvester Turner.

Gina Luna is Chairman of JPMorgan Chase in the Houston Region and leads the Middle Market Banking business. She is also active in recruiting, mentoring, and leadership development within the organization. She is an active community member, and she is the immediate past chairman of the Greater Houston Partnership. She also services as the chair of UpSkill Houston and the chair of the GHP Nominating Committee. She is on the board of directors for the United Way of Greater Houston, the 2017 Super Bowl Host Committee and the Children’s Museum of Houston.

The Democratic Primary Runoff Election will be Early Voting: May 16-20, 2016 and Election Day is May 24, 2016. Fredericka Phillips, who is running for 61st District Court Judge, has over 15 years of experience representing individuals and businesses in state and federal courts across the country. She is active in numerous Democratic clubs, and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Texas Democratic Party. Rev.
