Greater Houston Area Top Teens of America Walk for St. Jude, Donate over $5,000 to Fight Childhood Cancer
Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated (TLOD), the Southwest Cluster Chapters of Top Teens of America (TTA) and Top Ladies, participated in the first annual Top Teens of America: Walk Benefiting St. Jude at Westbury High School on Saturday, May 21, and generated over $5,000 to fight childhood cancer. Nationwide, more than 130 chapters of Top Teens of America participated in the Walk for St. Jude. Lady Drema Lee Woldman, national president of Top Ladies of Distinction, selected this program after visiting and meeting with officials. The national goal is $30,000; and $21,116 has been raised to date. Funds can be donated through June 1.
The Lake Houston Chapter ranks first in the Southwest Cluster and second in the nation as the “TOP” team and “TOP” individual contributions. Collectively, Lake Houston’s Top Teens donated $1,539 to St. Jude. Lady Thelma Johnson, a Top Lady in the Lake Houston, raised $735 which was donated to the Top Teens’ overall total. “I created a personal fundraising website and sent emails to sorority sisters, family and friends. Their responses were overwhelming,” she said. According to Johnson, she was motivated by the knowledge that fundraisers and donors like her pay for services, so families don’t have to pay for anything. Under the leadership of Shwanda Warner, Cluster Coordinator, more than 150 Teens, Ladies and Lords participated in the walk.
