The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum 16th Annual Gala
On Friday, February 26, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum held its 16th Annual Gala honoring Our Military Musicians. Presiding Officer was Jose Griñan (FOX 26 News Anchor). The History of Military Music was given by Rucks Russell (KHOU 11- News Reporter). Nancy Arriola (2016 Gala Chair) gave the Introduction of Honoree – Mr. Louis C. Wells, CW03, USA. Mr. Wells Sr. is a retired United States Army Bandmaster. He began his career in the Army in 1946 and served many band assignments. He served for 32 years of military service and he retired as Chief Warrant Officer 3. He is also the founder and director of the Shreveport Regional Wind/Jazz Ensemble and a member of the Executive Board of the Local Musician Union. Mr. Wells Sr. has many decorations, awards, recognitions and community service. There were Honored Guests: Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.

Achievement Through Leadership Foundation
On Saturday, February 27, 2016, from 8pm to midnight, the Achievement Through Leadership Foundation with the Missouri City-Sugar Land Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated held a fundraiser, Kasino Royale 2016: A Night in The Big Easy at the DoubleTree by Hilton-Greenway Plaza in Houston. This event helped fund scholarships for deserving Houston-area youth who are college-bound seniors. There were casino tables, a live band, dancing, dining and drinks for an exciting night of fun. Contest prizes included $200 cash for the best mask and a “Porsche for the Weekend” sponsored by Momentum Porsche. This event was one to be remembered!
Children’s Museum of Houston Presents its 2016 Friends and Families Luncheon
The 2016 Friends and Families Luncheon was held by the Children’s Museum of Houston, and the Mistress of Ceremony was Gina Gaston Elie. Divya Brown and Candace Thomas were the Friends and Families Luncheon Chairs, and Michelle Lee was the Featured Speaker. The Marian and Speros Martel Early Childhood Educator of the Year Award 2016, coordinated by the Children’s Museum of Houston, is presented annually to an outstanding professional who possesses an exemplary commitment to the education of young children in Houston which transforms communities through innovative, child-centered learning. The three finalists were Jonathan Doria (Preschool teacher at Lyons Elementary HISD), Evelyn Terry (Preschool teacher at Martin L. King, Jr. Early Childhood Center HISD), and Maggie Abrego (Preschool teacher at Kujawa Early Childhood Center Aldine ISD).
Sisters Network Incorporated Third Annual Pink Angel Awards Luncheon & Style Show
On Sunday, February 28, 2016, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., the Sisters Network Incorporated held its Third Annual Pink Angel Awards Luncheon & Style Show which benefits Breast Cancer Assistance Program. Dr. John Stanford and Mrs. Judy Foston-Stanford served as Honorary Chairs; Caleen Allen and Shawntell McWilliams served as Co-Chairs; and Melinda Spaulding, Anchor FOX 26 News gave the Welcome. Karen Eubanks Jackson (Founder/CEO, Sisters Network Inc.) presented the recognition of Sponsors and SNI Board of Directors, and a Special Presentation was given by Brothers Helping Sisters. The Haute Couture Style Show was presented by Elizabeth Anthony.
