On Saturday, April 9, 2016, The Woodlands Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., hosted over 400 guests at Fallbrook Church located at 12512 Walters Rd in Houston, Tx. The Woodlands Chapter of Jack and Jill of America prepares for another phenomenal programming year with profound memories of the 2016 Children’s Cluster for the Houston Center of Excellence in the South Central Region of Jack and Jill of America. The theme of this unique experience was entitled: “Start Your Engines, Race to Your Future.” Over 200 youth were encouraged to participate and race to their future using their mind, body, and soul. Workshops were offered during this dynamic and unforgettable event. This community program was offered to provide unique experiences for both parents and children engaging their whole bodies as they prepare for the future using their mind, body, and soul. Career and Recovery Resources Annual Barrier Breaker Awards Luncheon
More than 370 guests came out to support Career and Recovery Resources (a United Way agency) during its annual Barrier Breaker Awards Luncheon. The luncheon took place on Monday, June 20, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Houston in Downtown Houston. The proceeds from this event will go to support the organization’s mission of helping individuals overcome barriers to employment. This event raised over $207,000 for Career and Recovery Resources. Notable attendees: Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Dr. Kathy Flanagan, as well as Cynthia Cisneros (ABC-Ch.13) and Spencer Tillman (FOX-Ch.26). On Monday, June 27, 2016, Who’s Who in Black Houston presented it’s ninth edition booklet that celebrates African American achievement at the Power Center at 6:00 p.m. This was a spectacular event that was well attended by many who continue to shape the landscape of our city including Houston’s second African American Mayor Sylvester Turner.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Holds Gun Violence Prevention Summit
On Wednesday, June 29, 2016, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee held a gun violence prevention summit at the Mickey Leland Federal Building in Downtown Houston. This summit highlighted the importance and the need for reform in our laws to prevent gun violence. This informative summit included community and civic leaders such as Texas State Rep. Borris Miles, Dr. Janice Beale, Constable Alan Rosen, Bishop James Dixon and others.
