The word for this week is….Fred Hammond
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth and sing for joy, yes, sing praises! Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the voice of melody.
Psalm 98:4-5 AMP
The scripture says it all, this past Sunday evening (May 1st) at the Fountain of Praise (FOP), one of Houston’s premiere churches lead by pastor’s Remus and Mia Wright was one of the biggest gospel concerts/live recordings of the year.
Who better to help usher in such an incredible “live” worship experience than Stellar, Dove and Grammy award winning artist, Fred Hammond (RCA Inspiration). The believers of God came together as one (Body of Christ) to hear Hammond minister, [not only to their spirit but to their souls in a way only he can; through his gift of song. There was never a dull moment, Hammond’s charismatic personality, transparency and undeniable love for our Lord and Savior had the entire church engaged all night.
Let’s just say Houston knows how to throw a party…a PRAISE party that is! Houston’s gospel community came out in support of their friend and colleague, Fred Hammond. Throughout the sanctuary you saw familiar faces like Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell (Windsor Village United Methodist Church), gospel artist Brian Courtney Wilson, Kathy Taylor, Trinity Dawson, the Shabach Reunion Choir, Pastor Keion Henderson (The Lighthouse Church) and more.
Hammond introduced new music with simple messages. Messages that resonate and are applicable to everyday situations. He even managed to take us back to the “old church” and how things use to be. This wasn’t just a concert; this was Hammond’s first “Live” recording since 1999. The atmosphere in the Fountain of Praise church was unbelievable, full of people singing, praising and worshipping. Needless to say if you missed the recording, you missed out on something amazing.
Will this be Hammond’s last recorded project? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I’m just glad he chose Houston to share in his vision. The projects release date has not been determined so continue to check “What’s Tha Word” weekly for updates. Until then…what’s your favorite Fred Hammond album or single?
