The word for this week is……Support
Reality is just that, reality! Change is inevitable…so no matter how much we’re against something, the likelihood of it remaining the same (the way WE like it) is highly unlikely. That’s why being able to embrace new situations, ideas and culture is the key to our survival and success. This allows us the ability to simultaneously blend the old with the new, therefore building a more cohesive existence.
Nowadays, everything from baby showers to a child’s 1st birthday party has an elaborate theme and somewhere within the inner workings of that theme is an undeniable purpose. My purpose is to expose/introduce as many people as possible to the continued progress and evolution of gospel music. Gospel music has come a long way and if it had not been for gifted and talented musicians like Mahalia Jackson, Thomas Dorsey, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Andrae Crouch and countless others, the present day gospel music platform might not exist.
That’s why the continued success of gospel music is important and without your support, the purpose of gospel music will cease to exist. There are a number of veteran gospel artist/groups like Shirley Ceasar, The Williams Brothers, Richard Smallwood, Yolanda Adams and Rance Allen who are still writing, performing and singing praises of Jesus. However, the next generation of gospel music is here. Just because it doesn’t sound like “Big Momma’s” gospel and because they don’t look a certain way doesn’t mean it’s not gospel. Get past the old school R&B sample, listen to the lyrics and open up your heart to the message God has for his people.
Every 2nd Thursday will be dedicated to helping you start or expand your gospel music collection. You’ll find my Top 5 albums or single suggestions for the month. Together, we can make a change!
